On her debut album, Nelly von Alven has collected a number of pieces that show the wide range of her creative work. On the one hand, there are the results of the examination of contemporary guitar literature from Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, e.g. the work "Canto Spirituoso" by Rossen Balkanski, which also gave the CD its name. But there are also impressive original compositions and traditional guitar music away from the mainstream.
The Spanish word "sortilegio" evokes magic, enchantment and an irresistible attraction to something or someone. In Manuel de Falla's "El amor brujo", the phrase "Sortilegios" announces midnight and precedes the enchanting "Danza ritual del fuego". The three composers chosen for the debut album of the NOVA Guitar Duo have much in common: They were all born around the last quarter of the nineteenth century....
